Shopping a Florence is great fun: Florence is one of Italy’s great fashion cities, and some of the top designers
are Florentines including Gucci, Ferragamo and Cavalli. In recent years the many
outlets outside the city limits have been drawing growing numbers of shoppers
who go there for the designer brands which are available at discounted prices.
There is something for every kind of visitors, from leather goods to shops selling
ceramics, foods, wines and jewellery.
The best shopping areas – The Ponte Vecchio is famous for its jewellery and gold. However the old Medieval
heart of Florence is the place to go for fashion: along Via de`Tornabuoni and
Via della Vigna Nuova you will find the shops of the most famous and prestigious
stylists. Santa Croce and San Lorenzo are the heart of the leather district
and for shoes it is worth visiting the nearby Via Borgo San Lorenzo, while antique
collectors will love the Borgo Ognissanti and Via Maggio.
The characteristic Oltrarno district has scores of little workshops and crafts
shops with a wide range of products, from shoes to jewellery. Borgo Ognissanti,
Via de` Fossi and Via Maggio are the city’s antique streets while the whole area
around the Oltrarno has countless little shops and traditional crafts workshops
which are very popular with locals and sell a vast range of goods from shoes to
jewellery.
